Beetle Blaster is a plastic trap inserted between frames in a hive to trap Small Hive Beetles (SHB) and thereby protect healthy honeybee colonies. It also acts as a very effective sentinel device. The trap, 23 cm long and 3.5 cm deep, is designed to fit neatly between outer frames in a hive. Each Beetle Blaster can contain about 25ml of vegetable oil which acts as the trapping fluid.The holes in the top of Beetle Blaster are big enough to allow SHBs to enter, but cannot be accessed by honeybees.

Propolis Tincture Warning The Isopropanol and resulting tincture is highly flammable so take necessary precautions - The product is for external use only and is not to be ingested. It is useful to source an old working electric coffee grinder from a car boot sale/ charity shop Put your propolis chunks in a plastic bag in your freezer Take a few chunks of propolis from the freezer and grind them immediately to a powder. Place the powder in a zip lock freezer bag and return it to the freezer. Grind more if necessary. Mix 1 part propolis by weight to 9 parts IPA (Isopropanol 99 pure) in a disposable glass bottle with a lid, swirling as it is added, then cap. Place the capped bottle in the dark on top of hot water tank in airing cupboard or on boiler - shake daily for 4 weeks. Much of the propolis will dissolve but the beeswax, bee legs, and wood shavings, etc. will not. Place filter paper in funnel and pour the slurry of propolis and alcohol through the funnel/filter into a sealable bottle The resulting clear dark fluid will be an approximate 10 saturated propolis tincture solution

This clever and very successful system encompasses every aspect of the process, achieving the benefits of grafting without the difficulties One hundred brown cell cups are placed in the back of the comb box which has previously been fixed in a brood comb, and the queen is put in the front of the cage under a queen excluder. As she is in full lay, she continues to lay eggs in the artificial cups. She can be released manually the next day. On the 4th days, very small, newly hatched larvae can be seen through the transparent back and cups, each in a pin-prick of royal jelly. Very easily, each cell cup is lifted off with a cell cup cap which passes onto a cell bar fitted with cell bar blocks. When the queen cells are sealed, hair roller cages can be slipped over, so that emerging virgins are contained. These cages can then be used for travelling and introduction. Each kit contains 1 plastic comb box, 10 hair roller cages, 100 brown cell cups, 10 cell bar blocks, 10 cell cup caps and full instructions.

They are made of natural materials. It only takes a few minutes for the smoke stick to be ready for use. Lighting smoke sticks is simple - with a lighter or matches. Smoke sticks are very easy to light because we use kerosene scented oil for lamps on both sides near the top to avoid spending time on the actual process of lighting the sticks. When we light the stick, let it burn for 3-5 minutes, during which time we can put on protective clothing and take all the necessary tools to inspect the hive. The best time to put it out is when we see white ash where the flame is. When inserting the smoke stick into the smoker, it is necessary to make sure that the hot tip is always turned upwards. If you followed the instructions for use, it's time to go to the apiary, take a smoke stick and enjoy the inspection.
